Job Description

We are looking for a Locomotive Electrician for our Baltimore, Maryland facility. The position offers a pay rate of $37.64 USD. In this role, you will inspect, service, and repair passenger coaches and locomotives according to OEM/FRA/DOT and Alstom standards.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and repair locomotive electrical and train control systems, sub-systems, and components.
  • Perform modifications based on drawings, prints, or electrical systems on locomotives.
  • Conduct fault detection and diagnostics using microprocessor and diagnostic equipment.
  • Install and maintain electrical wiring and equipment, including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).
  • Manage equipment work orders using an asset management database.
  • Ensure compliance with railroad rules, regulations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).
  • Operate locomotives, passenger coaches, and prime movers as part of a team to move rail equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned according to union agreements.

Required Experience:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience as an electrician in an industrial environment.
  • Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints and circuit schematics.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Journeyman Electrician or Master Electrician.

Basic Competencies:

  • Strong verbal comprehension and communication skills.
  • Reasoning and problem-solving skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude and basic understanding of electrical theory.
  • Ability to obtain Qualified Maintenance Person (QMP) designation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Heavy work; able to lift up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds rarely.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, and climbing.
  • Ability to walk long distances over uneven terrain.
  • Exposure to heat and other environmental conditions.

Work Environment:

  • Work outside in all weather conditions, occasionally at heights over 100 feet and in confined spaces.
  • Compliance with safety regulations and wear protective equipment as required.
  • Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shifts.

Employment Conditions:

  • Subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Must pass a post-offer medical examination.
  • This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement, and membership is required.
