Job Description
The Experienced First Line Supervisor (EFLS) role at BNSF Railway's Mechanical Department offers a competitive annual salary of $85,000 and provides a great opportunity to manage mechanical operations teams. This position is ideal for candidates with a strong mechanical background and leadership experience. It involves overseeing the inspection, maintenance, and repair of railcars and locomotives in a union environment, while driving operational efficiency and safety. Applicants must be flexible with relocation and travel requirements and will undergo a 6-month training program. This is a full-time position with a 24x7 operational environment, which includes potential on-call duties, overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Primary Responsibilities
- Supervise the inspection, maintenance, and repair of railcars and locomotives, ensuring safety and efficiency.
- Lead mechanical shop employees in a union environment, assigning and coordinating daily schedules.
- Position labor and equipment to inspect, test, and repair equipment according to the daily operational plan.
- Foster strong relationships with cross-functional teams to drive operational efficiency and continuous improvement.
- Ensure compliance with BNSF’s employment policies, safety rules, union agreements, and AAR/FRA regulations.
Required Experience
- At least 3 years of military and/or professional work experience supervising 5 or more employees.
- Experience in mechanical operations, leadership, and managing teams in a safety-sensitive environment.
- Ability to work in a 24/7 environment, including nights, weekends, and holidays, and safely perform duties outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to travel up to 25% of the time based on business needs.
- Does not require sponsorship to obtain, maintain, or extend authorization to work in the United States. (For example, H1-B Visa or STEM OPT)
- Legally authorized to work in the United States and will be at least eighteen (18) years old upon hire AND have a valid Driver's License or will have a valid Driver's License upon hire.
Required Education
- High school diploma or GED.
Working Conditions
- This position is conducted in an indoor/outdoor, safety-sensitive environment. Working conditions include diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet), walking on uneven surfaces, working around loud noises and fumes, climbing ladders, and operating heavy/moving machinery.
