Job Description

As a Conductor Trainee at BNSF Railway, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient movement of freight across the nation. This position offers an entry rate of approximately $240.64 per day, with an average annual salary ranging from $70,000 to $82,000. This is a full-time position, subject to on-call (24/7), nights, weekends, and holidays, requiring frequent travel within the designated seniority region.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Communication: Obtain, receive, and act on information (oral and written) through various devices, monitor and report daily work.
  • Switching Functions: Operate track switches and derails to change train routing, checking switch points for proper alignment.
  • Train and Equipment Inspections: Spot cars, determine train make-up, inspect cars per federal regulations, and monitor track conditions for issues.
  • Safety Responsibilities: Engage in safety conversations, follow safety rules and procedures, and use personal protective equipment as required. Respond to emergencies as needed.

Required Experience:

  • Able to work safely in diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, sleet).
  • Ability to work with heavy/moving machinery, on uneven surfaces, and around loud noises and fumes.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements and availability for extended periods.
  • Must be at least 18 years old or will be by the anticipated start date.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds. 

Work Environment:

  • This position operates in a safety-sensitive environment that includes working in extreme weather conditions, on uneven surfaces, and with loud noises, fumes, and heavy machinery.
