Job Description & Requirements

The Field Specialist is responsible for servicing and repairing a variety of office equipment at customer locations, typically within a specific geographic area. This role may involve taking on a Team Lead/Coordinator position. A minimum of 1 industry certification is required. The position requires a high level of technical skill, with expertise in servicing complex office products. Extensive travel, customer interaction, and the ability to handle challenging situations are key aspects of the role.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Specialize in servicing and repairing a core set of highly complex office products.
  • Manage territory, inventory, and customer relationships.
  • Provide 2nd level technical support to other technicians as a specialist.
  • Achieve productivity targets based on assigned workload and experience.
  • Identify and drive revenue-generating opportunities (e.g., supply leads, contract sales, network support contracts).
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Perform troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair or replacement of equipment components.
  • Complete technical training on new equipment as needed.
  • Provide on-the-job training (OJT) for new and experienced technicians.
  • Conduct technical seminars and serve as a role model within the team.
  • Maintain parts inventory and adhere to territory backup plans.
  • Complete administrative tasks accurately and on time.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and customer service orientation at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Experience:

  • Typically requires 3+ years of related experience, including a minimum of 2 years as a Technology Service Consultant I.
  • Requires 1 industry certification.
  • Must have a valid state driver's license and meet minimum auto insurance coverage requirements.

Required Education:

  • Completion of technical school or equivalent training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong working knowledge of electro-mechanical devices and electronics.
  • Expertise in assigned equipment.
  • Skilled problem-solving approach.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and related documentation.

Working Conditions:

  • Works in an office environment with adequate lighting, ventilation, and normal temperature and noise levels.
  • Extensive daily travel between customer locations, which may require walking in a limited urban area.
  • Frequent exposure to chemical solvents, cleaners, and minor risk of cuts and burns.
  • Travel may occur in various weather conditions.
  • Shift work, overtime, on-call, and stand-by may be required.
  • Physical effort to move heavy objects (up to 400 pounds) and carry tools (25-50 pounds).
  • Frequent walking, bending, reaching, and lifting when installing or servicing equipment.
  • Requires use of hand tools, including fine-motor skills for small electronic and mechanical components.
