Job Description & Requirements

The Automation Operator is a resident, on‑site technician who services and repairs robotic, workstation and modular automation systems at a designated Service Advantage partner location. Acting as the front‑line support expert, the technician performs preventive and break‑fix maintenance, maximizes system uptime and coordinates with partner support teams during planned downtime windows.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, repair and perform preventive maintenance on robots, automated workstations and partner structures.

  • Execute full service cycle: inspection, diagnostics, installation, configuration testing, commissioning, retrofits and documentation.

  • Triage hardware failures, conduct system triage and resolve complex electro‑mechanical and software issues.

  • Collect and analyze performance data, apply root‑cause analysis and drive process improvements to meet SLAs/KPIs.

  • Maintain accurate records in the client’s CMMS; review and update technical documentation.

  • Provide 2nd‑level support and guidance to other technicians; take lead/coordinator role when required.

  • Communicate directly with vendor partners and internal support teams; complete all required technical training.

  • Follow lock‑out/tag‑out and all established safety procedures; perform additional partner‑support duties as assigned.

Required Experience

  • Hands‑on expertise with automated systems, PLCs and industrial PCs.

  • Proficiency with Linux/command line plus working knowledge of Java, XML, SQL and database administration.

  • Ability to interpret blueprints/electrical schematics and use CMMS software.

  • Demonstrated electro‑mechanical troubleshooting, customer communication and multitasking skills.

Required Education

  • Associate degree or 4‑year apprenticeship/equivalent training in robotics, mechanical, mechatronics or electrical fields.

  • (Preferred) Vocational or college degree focused on robotics, mechanical or electronics technology.

Work Environment

  • Warehouse setting with normal lighting, ventilation, temperature and noise levels.

  • Variable shifts and overtime may be required; frequent use of hand/power tools.

  • Regular stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing ladders and lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs; moving wheeled loads up to 400 lbs.

  • Work in tight spaces and robotic corridors; occasional overnight travel for vendor‑specific training.
