The Telecom Electronic Technician II position at BNSF offers a full-time role based in Kansas City, KS, with an anticipated start date of March 24, 2024. The salary range for this position is approximately $8,060 per month, with an average annual salary of $96,723. This role includes on-the-job and classroom training at the BNSF Training Center. The position involves installing, repairing, and maintaining communication systems and equipment, ensuring safe and efficient railroad operations.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Install, repair, and maintain telecommunications equipment, including radios, microwave (MW), and radio frequency (RF) data link equipment.
- Assemble, adjust, test, and maintain wired and wireless systems, VoIP, cameras, AEI systems, and IP networks.
- Troubleshoot telecommunications devices and resolve issues, collaborating with the IT help desk to resolve tickets.
- Perform repairs and calibration on devices, including using oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.
- Read and interpret electronic circuit schematics for troubleshooting and repair.
- Configure and perform advanced soldering on Through Hole and Surface Mount Devices (SMD).
- Work in a safety-sensitive environment, complying with safety protocols and regulations.
Required Experience:
- 2 years minimum of verifiable electronics experience or post-high school training.
- Experience in soldering work and troubleshooting electronic circuits to the component level.
- Ability to work safely in diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, sleet).
- Moderate travel required within the assigned region.
- At least 18 years of age or will be by the anticipated start date listed in the job description.
Required Education:
- High school diploma or GED.
- An associate degree in Electronics or Vocational Certificate in Electronics technology, or 2 years of related verifiable experience.
Work Environment:
- Work primarily conducted in a safety-sensitive environment, including walking on uneven surfaces, working around loud noises, fumes, and heavy machinery.
- Work in diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, sleet).
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional work on top of locomotives and other equipment.
