Job Description & Requirements
As a member of the Track Maintenance team at BNSF Railway, you will play a vital role in constructing, inspecting, and repairing railroad tracks and assets. This is a full-time (40hrs/week) position subject to on-call, overtime, night, alternating shifts, weekends, and holidays. The entry rate for this position is approximately $23.28-$25.87 after probation, with potential to earn up to $30.82.
Primary Responsibilities
- Track Maintenance Repair and Installation: Repair and rebuild railroad tracks, perform maintenance (pulling spikes, cutting, welding, or drilling rail), and maintain a clean right of way by removing hazards such as brush, trees, vegetation, litter, and cargo spillage.
- Maintaining the Track-bed: Manually compress ballast, remove/install ties, and replace, cut, and adjust rail.
- Operating Equipment: Use power hand tools (electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic) and non-powered hand tools (drills, impact wrenches, jacks, power saws, grinders, shovels, picks, and saws).
- Truck Driver and Maintenance: Operate 26K+ lb trucks, ensuring proper truck/equipment maintenance and record keeping.
- Welding, Grinding, and Cutting Rail: Learn and follow BNSF welding procedures and operate welding trucks safely and efficiently, maintaining records and time sheets.
- Safety Compliance: Engage in safety procedures, wear required personal protective equipment, and adhere to safety policies and regulations.
Required Experience
- Previous experience in maintenance, construction, or a related field is preferred but not required.
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including lifting up to 60 lbs, working in various weather conditions, and operating heavy machinery.
- Experience with hand tools, power tools, and equipment operation is beneficial.
Work Environment
- Daily work is conducted in a safety-sensitive environment that can include diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
- Work is performed on uneven surfaces, around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.
