Embark on a fulfilling career at BNSF Railway, where joining the Mechanical Department means contributing to the backbone of the nation's rail infrastructure. The Electrician Diesel Engine position plays a critical role in ensuring the reliable operation and safety of locomotive electrical systems and shop machinery.
This is a full-time position (40 hrs/week) governed by union agreement and subject to seniority. Mechanical shops operate 24/7 with assigned shifts of one of three 8-hour rotations. Minimal travel is required. Company-paid on-the-job training is provided.
Salary Range: Entry rate is approximately $34.46–$41.02 per hour with an annual pay of $71,670.14–$85,321 with 3–5 years seniority.
Primary Responsibilities:

Test, inspect, and repair electrical components of locomotive systems and shop machinery.

Maintain and repair locomotive alternators, generators, motors, AC/DC power control systems, electrical cabinets, lighting, batteries, and wiring.

Inspect, adjust, troubleshoot, and perform preventative maintenance on electrical components of shop equipment (drop tables, welding, mechanical and electromagnetic equipment).

Work in a safety-sensitive environment, adhering to safety rules, policies, and federal/state regulations, including the use of PPE.

Engage in safety conversations and proactive safety behavior.

Assigned work may involve varying environmental conditions and loud, heavy machinery.
Required Experience:
-
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs without assistance.

Ability to visually distinguish colors and discriminate between verbal/non-verbal sounds.

Use of hand tools for tasks involving holding, grasping, turning, and pulling.

Capability to climb ladders, work at heights, and occasionally bend, walk, stand, and sit.

Preferred: 4 years of practical experience in electrical work.
Must be at least 18 years old by the start date.

Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. without future sponsorship.
Work Environment:

Work is conducted in environments with extreme weather (hot, cold, rain, snow, sleet).

Conditions include uneven surfaces, loud noise, fumes, and proximity to heavy/moving machinery.

Assigned shifts rotate, and work may be conducted on holidays and weekends.
