The Signal Apprentice position at BNSF in Minot, ND offers an entry rate of approximately $35.89 per hour, with the average annual pay ranging from $85K to $95K after 3-5 years of seniority. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week role that includes a company-paid apprenticeship program and on-the-job training. Successful candidates will receive pay increases with each step of qualification. Travel is required up to 90% outside of the headquarter location, with travel costs covered according to the collective bargaining agreement.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Perform construction, reconditioning, installation, maintenance, repair, inspection, and testing of wayside signal devices.

• Load and unload supplies, install underground and overhead cables, including trenching and hand digging, and work around heavy machinery.

• Work on or around highway grade crossings, climb signal masts, bridges, and ladders, and handle cables and wires for electrical connections.

• Use power and non-power tools, including shovels, picks, axes, micrometers, voltmeters, amp meters, and drills.

• Operate equipment such as backhoes, trenchers, boom trucks, and directional boring machines.

• Work in a safety-sensitive environment with diverse and extreme weather conditions, loud noises, fumes, and heavy machinery.

Required Experience:

• Ability to work safely in diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, sleet).

• Able to perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 60 lbs occasionally and 15-30 lbs frequently.

• Experience working with power and non-power tools and heavy machinery is beneficial.

• Ability to distinguish between verbal and non-verbal sounds in the work environment.

• Able to work in the US without company sponsorship now AND in the future. 

  At least 18 years of age or will be by the anticipated start date listed above. 

  Possess a valid state-issued driver's license.  

Required Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Working Conditions:

• The position involves working in diverse and extreme weather conditions, including hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet.

• Work is often performed on uneven surfaces and in environments with loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery.

• Travel up to 90% outside of the headquarter location, with extended stays at job sites.
