Job Description & Requirements
The Maintenance Technicians will be responsible for inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining the AirTrain cars, station doors, wayside systems, and equipment related to these systems. Our operation is 24 hours a day and seven days a week.
Pay Rate: $28.72/hour
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform corrective and preventive maintenance, inspections, repairs, and adjustments to all systems, subsystems, and components of an electronic, mechanical, electro-mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic nature.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain train car subsystems, including propulsion, brakes, pneumatic systems, door operations, couplers, structural systems, signaling, onboard circuit boards, communication, electrical, and lighting systems.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain wayside subsystems such as power rail, guide structure, signaling, guideway switches, communication, electrical, and power distribution systems.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain passenger station subsystems, including automatic doors, access doors, signaling, and control systems.
- Troubleshoot complex systems and components to identify problems or failures.
- Use various electronic and mechanical test equipment to diagnose and isolate faults.
- Utilize calibrated tools, special tools, and diagnostic aides.
- Install and repair wiring assemblies.
- Follow and maintain documentation standards.
- Assist in continuous improvement programs for periodic inspections, repairs, maintenance, and schedules to reduce out-of-service time.
- Participate in safety awareness programs, periodic training, and other safety-related activities.
- Follow established procedures and ensure safe work practices for themselves and others.
Required Experience
- Proficient in English.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years of combined mechanical and/or electrical work experience in a relevant field (Formal education may be substituted for experience).
- Valid Class C Driver’s License.
- Basic knowledge of electrical, mechanical, electro-mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Ability to use hand tools and power tools.
- Familiarity with basic electrical and mechanical test equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret manuals, diagrams, schematics, and parts breakdowns.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to document work on written and/or computerized forms.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Must successfully complete written and practical assessments.
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate degree (A.S.) in a related mechanical or technical discipline and/or Vocational Training/Certification in a related discipline (Previous work experience may be recognized in lieu of formal education).
- Skilled in diagnosing electronic and mechanical systems.
- Experience working with PLCs and relay logic systems.
- Ability to use various computer applications for reports, shift communications, inventory control, etc.
- Hands-on experience working with AC and DC power and control systems.
- Experience with HVAC systems, metal fabrication, or machining is a strong asset.
- Multilingual communication skills are a plus.
Work Environment
- Exposure to outside weather conditions and moving mechanical parts.
- Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles, extreme temperatures, electrical shock risks, and vibration.
- Noise levels range from moderate to loud.
- Work may be required in a train yard with live rails.
- Frequent walking, handling objects, reaching, and occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crawling.
- Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
