Blade Repair Technician II
The Blade Repair Technician II is responsible for performing advanced structural repairs and fabrication on wind turbine blades. This role demonstrates proficiency at Level 3 competency on the Technician Development Roadmap (TDR), is certified in a minimum of two repair types, and has the ability to train entry-level technicians (Repair Technician I)..
Key Responsibilities
Perform advanced repair functions, certified in a minimum of two repair types.
Complete repairs with precision, accuracy, and timeliness, maintaining all required documentation.
Train and mentor Repair Technicians at Level I.
Independently read and interpret repair drawings and log appropriate documentation.
Draft and revise work instructions in accordance with engineering drawings.
Maintain a 95% First Pass Yield (FPY) rate on repairs.
Demonstrate expertise in all basic (basin-level) repairs and materials, including:
Epoxy and polyester resins
Wet lay-up and vacuum bag techniques
Balsa and foam core handling
Fiberglass reinforcement and structural repair
Use powered hand tools safely and correctly.
Understand quality specifications, including temperature and humidity limits.
Confer with engineers, production personnel, and others to resolve machining, assembly, or quality issues.
Maintain clean workspaces, machines, tools, and equipment.
Handle duties related to hazardous waste storage in compliance with safety procedures.
Participate in and complete all required repair coursework and training.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
Education: High school diploma or GED.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of composite repair experience.
Must have met Level III on the Technician Development Roadmap (TDR).
Demonstrated experience in fiberglass and composite materials.
Certifications:
Must pass Respiratory Fit Test annually.
Must pass Confined Spaces Test.
Certified in a minimum of two repair types.
Holds Q role certification.
Skills:
Ability to read and interpret technical instructions, drawings, and blueprints.
Strong teamwork, adaptability, and craftsmanship.
High attention to detail with strong self-motivation.
Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide with fractions and decimals).
Proficient in using various tools and gauges.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Additional Information:
Must have 100% attendance and completion of all offered training.
Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
