Job Description & Requirements
The Broadband Installation Technician is responsible for broadband installation and troubleshooting activities for voice, video, and data services. This entry-level role involves performing field assessments, ensuring compliance with company standards, and completing necessary training and certifications for advancement. The role requires increasing proficiency in installation and troubleshooting while maintaining a high level of customer service. Continued employment is contingent upon achieving required training, certifications, and safety requirements. Pay Rate: $20.00 per hour.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform installations and changes of service, adhering to company procedures, safety practices, and regulatory codes (NEC, NESC, and local ordinances).
- Conduct service calls, troubleshooting connections from the tap to the customer's equipment.
- Assess and design basic home networks using coaxial cable, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, and MoCA technology.
- Maintain accurate records and update customer accounts with service details.
- Test and confirm service quality, making adjustments as needed.
- Configure Wi-Fi networks, including optimal device placement and customer education.
- Provide customers with educational materials on channel lineups, service applications, equipment use, and company policies.
- Maintain company vehicle and equipment, reporting any service needs or incidents.
- Properly handle installation tools and equipment, such as power tools, meters, and ladders.
- Navigate digital work order systems and diagnostic tools.
- Obtain and maintain necessary licenses or background checks as required by federal, state, or local regulations.
- Perform installations at elevated locations, including climbing poles (18-26 feet), using safety gear and bucket trucks.
- Lift and carry loads of up to 70 lbs., work in confined spaces (crawl spaces, attics), and near power lines.
- Drive a company vehicle responsibly and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Adapt to various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and other environmental factors.
- Work flexible schedules, including weekends, evenings, holidays, and mandatory overtime.
- Meet or exceed company performance metrics and goals.
- Complete required training and pass certification tests within the specified timeframe.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
- No prior experience required; training provided.
- Experience with broadband installation, home networking, or troubleshooting preferred.
Required Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
Work Environment
- Work involves exposure to moderate noise levels, working at heights, and handling equipment weighing up to 70 lbs.
- Requires physical effort, including climbing, bending, reaching, and working in confined spaces.
- Exposure to animals in residential areas, including dogs.
- Works outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Requires flexible work hours, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.
