The Wind Turbine Repair Travel Tech II position is a traveling role that will be based in and around your geographical area, with opportunities across the North/West US, as well as Canada. The role involves performing major repairs and component changeouts on various O&M platforms. There is growth potential within this newer department at Vestas. The position requires 100% travel and the ability to work overtime and variable schedules as needed. The salary range for this position is $24.50 to $30 per hour.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Perform intermediate level wind turbine maintenance and installation tasks, including the use of specialized calibration, hydraulic, and power tools.
- Document tasks and enter data into the company system (e.g., SAP).
- Serve as a safety role model, encouraging safe practices and intervening in unsafe situations.
- Identify safety risks and gaps, implement risk mitigation, and provide recommendations to higher-level technical staff and management.
- Troubleshoot turbine performance issues and perform diagnostic tasks, seeking assistance when needed.
- Follow structured problem-solving processes and execute work tasks with limited supervision.
- Promote teamwork, assist teammates, mentor lower-level technical staff, and support change initiatives.
- Interface with customers and respond to inquiries, referring complex matters to higher-level staff.
Required Experience:
- Preferred: 1-2 years of wind industry experience, including electrical experience and the ability to read electrical drawings.
- Demonstrated intermediate working knowledge of industrial safety practices (e.g., Confined Space, energy isolation).
- Ability to complete detailed component inspections and report findings.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a passport.
- Strong attention to detail, interpersonal and customer relations skills.
- Basic computer operation skills, familiarity with internet-based programs, and the ability to generate and interpret computer data.
Required Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Preferred: Post high school education (e.g., wind school, trade school, college).
Work Environment:
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders up to 125 meters in height.
- Ability to lift, push/pull, carry items up to 50 lbs.
- Capable of standing, stooping, kneeling, and bending for extended periods.
- Ability to grip and manipulate items, including tools and turbine parts.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces and at heights over 100 meters.
- Ability to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.
- Comfortable working remotely with limited supervision.
Location of This Position:
This is a traveling position based in and around your geographical area. Travel locations include the following U.S. states: WA, OR, ID, MT, WY, CO, UT, ND, SD, MN, and potentially Canada.
