Job Description & Requirements

BNSF is seeking a Track Maintenance Laborer for their Bay City, WI location. The entry rate for this full-time, 40 hours per week position is approximately $34.90/hr. The job requires availability for on-call duties, overtime, nights, alternating shifts, weekends, and holidays. Travel to and extended stays at job sites within the designated seniority region is required. Training for this role will be provided through company-paid on-the-job and classroom sessions.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Construct, inspect, and repair tracks and other railroad assets, maintaining railway corridors.
  • Perform track maintenance including repair and installation, pulling spikes, cutting, welding, and drilling rail.
  • Maintain the right of way by removing hazards such as brush, trees, vegetation, litter, and cargo spillage.
  • Perform trackbed maintenance by compressing ballast, installing and removing ties, and adjusting rail.
  • Operate hand tools (electric, pneumatic, hydraulic) and non-powered tools like shovels, picks, saws, and grinders.

Required Experience:

  • Ability to work in diverse and extreme weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, sleet).
  • Ability to work on uneven surfaces and around heavy/moving machinery.
  • No specific previous work experience required, but must be physically capable of lifting up to 60 lbs and working in safety-sensitive environments.

Required Education:

  • Must be at least 18 years old or will be by the anticipated start date.
  • Valid state-issued driver’s license required.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is conducted in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures and precipitation.
  • Job requires standing, walking, and performing tasks on uneven surfaces.
  • Work environment includes loud noises, fumes, and heavy machinery.
