Job Description & Requirements

As a Track Maintenance Laborer at BNSF Railway, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and repairing the railway infrastructure that supports the movement of essential products across the nation. This position is full-time, offering an entry rate of approximately $34.90 per hour. This role involves on-call work, overtime, night shifts, weekends, and holidays. Travel to job sites and extended stays at these locations may also be required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform track maintenance and repairs including the installation and rebuilding of railroad tracks, and handling tasks such as pulling spikes, cutting, welding, and drilling rail.
  • Maintain the right-of-way by removing hazards like brush, trees, vegetation, litter, and cargo spillage.
  • Work on the trackbed by manually compressing ballast, replacing and installing ties, cutting and adjusting rail, and lifting materials with assistance.
  • Operate power hand tools (electric, pneumatic, hydraulic) and non-powered hand tools (shovels, picks, saws, grinders).
  • Maintain safety by adhering to BNSF's safety regulations, using personal protective equipment, and engaging in daily safety conversations.

Required Experience:

  • No prior experience is required, but candidates must be able to perform physical labor and operate hand tools.
  • Ability to work in diverse and extreme weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, and sleet.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites within the seniority region and remain at these locations for extended periods.

Required Education:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age by the anticipated start date.
  • Possess a valid state-issued driver’s license.

Work Environment:
This position is performed in a safety-sensitive environment that includes working around loud noises, fumes, and heavy/moving machinery. You will be exposed to varying weather conditions and must be able to perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, bending, lifting up to 60 lbs, and working on uneven surfaces.
